Scholarship Information

The NJTL of Trenton’s education scholarships are available for participants and staff. Most of the applicants apply for multi-year funding and return in the summer to work for the NJTL of Trenton, but it is not required. NJTL of Trenton offers a total of $15-$20,000 in annual scholarship stipends to participants.

Applications are due to the NJTLT office by July 1 of each calendar year, and recipients will be notified on or before August 1 to help prepare for the fall semester of school. If you have further questions, please contact the NJTLT office.

 

Purpose

• To provide financial assistance for preparatory high school or college education to youth who have participated in the NJTL of Trenton program or who have been employed as program staff.
• To promote the importance of education in life goals and the linkage of education with sports.

Eligibility and Criteria

 
 

(In order to be eligible for a scholarship, ASHE students must fulfil the following requirements)

 

  1. Be an active ASHE Participant/Student for a minimum of two (2) years:

    1. Attend Ashe Practices Regularly

    2. Attend Enrichment Programs

    3. Complete a minimum of 16 volunteer hours

  2. Fill out and return scholarship application form

  3. Write a short essay on what NJTL-T has meant to you and how you would like to give back to NJTL-T and/or the Trenton Community. (*minimum 250 - 500 words 1-2 pages double spaced)

  4. Pick up the check in person and take a photo with your college banner, hat or t-shirt by the second week of August prior to leaving for school

Action to be completed while enrolled in college upon receiving scholarship:

  1. Volunteer a minimum of 4 hours during Winter and/or Summer Ashe Program when school is not in session (example: volunteer for one (1) full day of Summer Camp)

  2. Submit Fall Semester transcript to NJTL-T

  3. Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA

  4. Attend in-person or virtual check-in after Fall semester

 

***Added consideration will be given to:

  • Those active in the program for periods of time longer than the minimum requirement of two (2) years

  • Active participation entails:

    • On the Court: Regular attendance at tennis practices, helping coaches with setup and breakdown of equipment and/or assisting coaches in teaching classes

    • Off the Court: regular involvement in age appropriate enrichment programs, volunteering at NJTL of Trenton special events such as the Annual Gala or Capital Cup
