Our Legacy

Arthur Ashe Mural

The National Junior Tennis & Learning of Trenton (NJTLT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of under-resourced youth through innovative tennis, education, and mentoring programs. Founded in 1975 with three volunteers and 30 children, it was initially affiliated with the Philadelphia-based National Junior Tennis League co-founded by Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell, and Sheridan Snyder. Under the auspices of the United States Tennis Association Foundation, NJTLT is part of a nationwide network of nearly 300 nonprofit youth development organizations.

Currently, the NJTLT delivers comprehensive tennis and educational services to children from the Greater Trenton Community including, Ewing, Hamilton, and Lawrenceville.

In 2010, NJTLT embarked on a public-private partnership to redevelop Trenton’s Cadwalader Park tennis facility. With the support of International Tennis Federation president Dave Haggerty, the City of Trenton and 55 private donors, NJTLT raised $1M. The tennis center, completed in 2014, features six renovated hard courts, 14 “10-and-under” short courts, a stadium court and a two-story pavilion. The Junior Champions Tennis Center at Cadwalader Park is one of the largest outdoor short-court development facilities in the United States, recognized as one of the USTA’s outstanding public tennis facilities.

Cadwalader Park Dedication Ceremony

In 2016, NJTLT kicked off a campaign to revitalize the Villa Park tennis courts in Trenton’s East Ward. The new facility now includes two full-sized courts with blended lines, three 10 & under courts, and a pavilion.

Valued Partnerships

NJTL of Trenton would like to personally thank all of the major corporations and private donors for their contributions to our tennis and education programs. Without your support, NJTLT would not be able to serve the Trenton, Hamilton, Ewing and Lawrenceville communities.
